While cultural and economic ties are tighter than ever, little progress has been made on cross-strait politics issues: the dialogue between the political representants has been frozen for over a decade, since their first meeting in 1993. Many Taiwanese enterprises have made investments in China. Although Taiwan President Chen Shui-bian has on many occasions, shown willingness to resume dialogue and consultation with China, there has not been any positive response from across the Taiwan Strait.
