The paper examines the Salvation Army as an agent of social transformation in Australia. The argument posited is that first we need to conceptualize the ever changing nature of religion, religious mission, politics and the post-secular society in order to best understand where and how social transformation takes place. While much has been said about how the state has promoted social transformation, less attention has been given to how religious organizations intersect with society and act as catalysts of positive social transformation.
