Abstract/Sommario: The article analyzes factors compelling ASEAN to relax its non-interference policy regarding members and intervene in Burma's internal affairs. The paper argues that the factors include pressure from individual members, ASEAN as a group, and the international community. The situation in Myanmar has lead ASEAN to review this policy openly during the 11th ASEAN summit in 2005. The situation in Myanmar has lead ASEAN to review this policy openly during the 11th ASEAN summit in 2005. ASEAN overtly pressured Myanmar to expedite democratic reform and release political detainees. In addition, ASEAN also pledged to send a team to visit Yangon to review political developments; Myanmar was muscled into accepting this scrutiny.
