The A. focuses on the relationship between local and international Islam in Sub-Saharan Africa. Starting from the fact that the region was initially dominated by African Traditional Religions and was influenced by Christianity, he deals with the recent development of Islam in Africa, becoming in the last four decades a significant component of both the religious and the socio-political landscape in the region. The A. also analyses the involvement of local Muslims in international Islamic activities and how the local scholarship has been influenced by the new trends present all over the Muslim world.
