Abstract/Sommario: Malaysia achieved independence from the British through peaceful and gradual transfer of power in 1963. Consequently, it adopted the framework of British governmental institutions. However, what will happen after the 2008 elections is yet to be observed. The extent of anger among the Malaysian Chinese and Indians over race-based entitlements for the majority of Malay Muslim is reflected in the outcome of the elections.

Abstract/Sommario: The process of development of rubber plantation assumes importance in view of the 'strategic raw-material/commodity status' enjoyed by the crop ever since the colonial times. The specific comparative advantage of North East India in terms of 'virgin land frontier' along with cheap labour coupled with the proximity of the region to the dynamic South East Asian countries underlie the scope and need for economic integration.
