Abstract/Sommario: The decennial meeting of bishops of the worldwide Anglican Communion, known as Lambeth Conference, was particularly focused on missiological imperatives. The second element was larger indaba groups or special committees( the zulu word 'indaba' means a meeting of chiefs or village leaders, that gather for purposeful discussion'). In 16 separate indaba groups the bishops engaged common issues now facing the Anglican Communion.

The issue was centre-stage for global Anglicanism at the 1998 Lambeth Conference, when a majority of bishops passed a resolution rejecting same-sex blessing and gay ordination. The flashpoint came with the 2003 Episcopal Church General Convention's consent to the election of V. Gene Robinson as the Episcopal bishop of New Hampshire, widely regarded as unilateral actions in defiance of Lambeth 1998. The current conflict has strained relations among the national and regional churches and has raised the possibility that membership of certain provinces in the communion may be downgraded from full to associate status
