Abstract/Sommario: The Church in Mainland China has been open for more than twenty years already. The veteran priests who had survived Liberation were the pillarsof the seminaries at the beginning of the 1980s. Most of the seminarians had come directly from society and had years of work experience. The textbooks were mosty handwitten copies of theology textbooks that were in use before Liberation, or mimeographed copies of materials. The textbooks were mosty handwitten copies of theology textbooks that were in use before Liberation, or mimeographed copies of materials. The 1990s were a peiod oftransition: thereligion policywas more lenient. Many foreign scholars andproferssos came to teach in the seminaries. Since March 2005, when the new "Regulations on Religious Affairs" came into effect, the management of religious affairs has become more regulated.. Strict restriction has been imposed on outside scholars comingto teach in China, buthey coul be replaced by a group ofseminarists sent abroad to study and returned to China. Reflections are made on the present situation of Seminary formation
