Abstract/Sommario: In Burma autonomy has been the core demand of ethnic minorities for over 50 years since 1947, and continues to remain the fundamental issue in the country. This is the primary cause of 50 years of armed conflict, with devastating consequences. Before any significant democratic changes happen inside the country, the international community needs to continue putting pressure on the military junta, and targeted sanctions should be maintained
