China reiterated its refusal to be drawn into a discussion on an autonomous future for Tibet by saying there was no question of changing 'the basic system currently in place". It also maintained that whatever the Dalai Lama and others may say, the situation in Tibet was excellent, and was only set to get better as it develops and modernizes further, obviously with Chinese immigrants entering it in ever larger numbers to dominate its economy and society.
