Abstract/Sommario:
The fertility of the soil was one of the factors of development of the middle Ganges plain at least from the half of the II millennium BC, absorbing people from other regions of the Subcontinent. Other factors which characterize the Ganges Civilization are better shown by litterary sources (for instance, the caste system).
