Islam, the Arab West and Sub-Saharan Africa, 1935-1980

Abstract/Sommario: Whether or not North African solidarity with Black African Muslim to the South was to prove politically divisive in sub-Saharan Africa, and regardless of whether Islam would prove an agent of, or a barrier to, modernization in newly-independent African States, Islam existed among both black and Arab Africans in the 1960s.
