Abstract/Sommario: Stefano Borgia (Velletri 1731-Lyons 1804) was an open - minded ecclesiastic who loved culture and learning. He was Secretary of Propaganda Fide from 1770 to 1789, Pro-Prefect from 1789 to 1800 and Prefect from 1802 to 1804. He was very concerned in the progress and renewall of the Catholic missions. Besides promoting the indigenous episcopacy and the use of the vernacular language in the liturgy, Borgia was especially noted for advocating the importance of learning the local languages. ...; [leggi tutto]
