Taking the Environmental High-Road: The Malaysian Oil Palm and Palm Oil Sector

Abstract/Sommario: In Malaysia the oil palm and palm oil sector has undergone rapid development especially since the 1960s. The enhanced growth in demand and supply has raised concerns about the sector's impact on the environment in terms of climate change via deforestation, destruction of wildlife habitat and conversion of semi-forested native farmlands into oil palm plantations.
