Abstract/Sommario: By about the 8th century, in the temples of Tamil Nadu, utsava murtis (festival images) began to be made in bronze. These utsavas were used during rituals: circumambulation of the temples or in the streets. The most important feasts are the grand celebrations called maha-utsavas, which are annual celebrations.
